The Riverside Class of 1980 would like to congratulate Jessica Slansky as the winner of the The Class of 80 Rocks and So Do You Scholarship for $500.

As the Class of 1980 approached the 40-year anniversary of its graduation, members wanted to celebrate in a unique way. Using money earned from the previous reunion in 2015, this scholarship was offered to students graduating in 2020.

According to Jessica’s application she had an extremely activity-packed high school career. She was the 2019 Lake County Fair Queen, a dancer, and a trombonist. Her volunteer service was also exemplary.

In the fall of 2020, she will be starting the new academic year at Lakeland Community College, completing her nursing degrees in the dual enrollment program that holds a partnership with Ursuline College.

According to committee chair Lina (Tomba) Kosloski, The Class Scholarship Committee was quite taken with Jessica. In the congratulatory message, Lina told Jessica, “Your application set you apart from some very stiff competition, and based on our rubric, you were a unanimous winner! We know you will continue giving back to your school and community with your selfless spirit, and we wish you the very best as you continue your education in the nursing field at Lakeland Community College.”

It was a great feeling for our class to have helped in some small way.
